iFun turns iPhone into Wii-like-controller

{ Posted on Nov 18 2008 by iphone app reviews }

This is something a lot of people dreamed of. One more reason or “excuse” to get an iphone or iPod touch this Christmas. Just in time for Thanksgiving Social Gaming Network got the iFun to the App store. iFun is not the same as its predecessors iGolf, iBowling or iBaseball.

With iFun the iPhone is turned into a handset game controller, potentially creating something similar to Nintendo’s Wii.

Once iFun is installed on the iPhone or iPod touch everything is pretty straight forward. Connect the iPhone or iPod touch to the computer, using 3G or Wi-Fi, whereby Wi-Fi is obviously the better choice. Register for an account or use an existing account like facebook, select a game and start the fun.

“I gave iFun some testing, and given that the phone is communicating with the on-screen game over the web, there was some lag between my motions and those on screen”, writes Brian X. Chen of gadget lab, ” it’s definitely not as smooth as Wii. Long story short, there’s a lot of work to be done here, but this is a rather interesting development in iPhone gaming with a lot of potential.”

One thing for sure, if Social Network Gaming will find ways to improve the gaming experience using iPhone 3G or iPod touch, it has a chance to stay. After all Apple will continue to improve the performance and functionality of its iPhone and iPod touch.
