I just connected my iPhone to my PC and I was told there is the new a new Apple iPhone 3G firmware available and what shall I say. After reading what is all new in version 2.2 I had to update.

As I write this post to iTunes is downloading the new iPhone 2.2 firmware. Since my computer is not the news one it will take a while but you can expect to have the download done in 5 minutes or less if you got an intel duo 2.x computer. 

For me the most exciting update is to be finally able to use pictograms in my email. Yes this is a must have in Japan and it did cause a lot of problems not to be able to do it. Not only I couldn’t express myself in the usual way – I am not talking about smilies – but all the other symbols that make creating and sending a message so much faster. But also it was not possible to receive any of these pictograms, and to make the matter worse, when someone sent such symbols it messed up the message for me, making it hard or impossible to read. 

That is history, well hope so. Softbank made a statement a few weeks ago and you could read it here that they are planing to improve. It is nice to know that the iPhone 3G is keep on improving time and time again.
