On Wednesday everyone can download or better update to iPhone OS 3.0 .Much has been said already about the new iPhone, but not to much about the new OS.

Reading some comments on other blogs and sites I am a bit surprised to notice that people get a bit confused about the new iPhone 3GS and OS 3.0 compared with the yet current iPhone 3G and OS 2.1

First the hardware is different the “s” in iPhone 3GS is standing for speed, which comes from a faster processor, 3-Megapixel camera, which includes autofocus, auto-white-balance and video-recording capabilities, not to forget videorecording. Besides that a digital compass is added for improved GPS navigation, enabling the iPhone Maps app to display directions based on which direction a user is facing and more storage. The top model has 32GB.

The iPhone 3GS is expected to hit the stores on Friday, two days after the os 3.0 came out.

Some comments on the web mention it will be possible to “upgrate” the iPhone 3G to an iPhone 3GS by downloading the new OS 3.0 – in short: NO.

As mention earlier the 3GS has some hardware upgrates that will make it not possible to match the current 3G. The OS is a total diffeent matter, it will run on the current and the 3GS. Some functions can not be in use with the 3G. It is the same as between the ipod touch and the iphone 3G and OS 2.1

I will download the new OS as soon as it is getting and I guess my iphone 3G will feel a touch faster after installing OS 3.0 – at least I experienced it when updating to a new OS using the same computer. And isn’t the iPhone not just an other computer only much smaller with an build in phone?
