I am sure you all know about the iPhone 3G finally being unlocked. I am looking to buy one and I want to use my T-Mobile sim card that carries the $29.99 300 min and UNL. N&W Plan. If I use that sim card, will I still get all the features like GPS, internet and texting? Thanks!

Ive unlocked my iphone, and I have to say it doubles or even triples its capabilities!
Not only does it let you use other service providers, you can get apps from places other than the app store. some of these apps allow you to do things that are against the app store developer’s rules. For example, you can download an app that lets you run different apps in the background. You can also change the styling of the interface. For example, mine looks like its running “Windows Vista Mobile.”
If your somewhat technical, you can run terminal programs and browse the root file system of the device. Even tethering is possible.
Of course, all the stuff that you can do with a normal iphone is still there.The only downside that I see is upgrading firmware versions, which re-locks the phone.
As far as running Tmobile, It think all you have to do is install the Tmobile service package through cydia (its like the app store for unlocked phones).
You would need to add the T-Mobile data plan and have T-Mobile internet settings sent to the iPhone in order for it to work.
The downside of unlocking is that you can not do an iPhone software update without locking the phone again, an unlocked phone has NO warranty from Apple at all so if a manufacturer defect happens on it, you will need to buy a new iPhone. Also there are times when the software used to unlock the phone causes permanent damage to the iPhone and Apple will not replace it due to being unlocked.

Two, you can use iPhone features like the GPS, internet and texting with any provider, Unlocked, Jailbroken, or not. Just make sure you get the appropriate voice and data plan for your usage. If you are not certain what your plan will allow you to do, call your provider. And do so especially before using any data related function such as GPS and Internet. To answer your initial question, if your iPhone is unlocked that means it will work on any GSM network. A regular “locked” iPhone will only work on the service provider you baught your iPhone from.

Unlock just means it will accept your sim card. To get internet you’ll need to first put it on your plan.. then change the settings to match the service you’re paying for. Texting is automatic.. and all features of the iphone will work.. Except the Visual Voicemail.
