I’m planning to buy and iPhone 3G from ebay, but i don’t plan to have a data plan for a few months. Now what I’m scared of is that I’ll accidently browse the internet on the 3G signal instead of WiFi, causing receive a huge bill for it from AT&T.
Is there a way to turn of 3G data, yet keep the calling and wifi features on at the same time via setting or something?

You CAN turn of 3G but the iPhone uses EDGE too, which means if you’re in an area where there is no 3G access it goes to that, or another one, I’m not sure what it’s called but it’s just a little dot where “3G” is supposed to be. I’m pretty sure they charge you for both of those…otherwise everyone would turn off their 3G and use wi-fi and EDGE and the other one, lol.
If I were you I’d get a data plan asap, it’s scary to get a huge bill from AT&T, lol. But if you just can’t right now, then avoid using any apps that use internet connection, unless if you’re absolutely certain you have wi-fi in that area and see the little wi-fi signal on the top.
If you want to access turning off 3G it’s here:
Settings>General>Network and it’s the first one.
Oh and yeah if you turn of 3G you can keep wi-fi & calling features but be careful!
