Why Do The Songs On My Ringtone List Keep Repeating For My Iphone 3g?

I tried dragging and dropping ringtones into my iphone 3g, but when i check my ringtone list on my phone, they are all the same songs repeated over and over. They show up fine in itunes though. Im aware that if you use sync the ringtones, rather than manually dragging and dropping, the tones do work. However, I want the tones to work with manually managing my music. I do not want everything to sync automatically. Is there any fix?
