Do I Get Internet Immediately After I Unlock My Iphone 3g?

Well I’ve already unlocked my iPhone 3G and got internet for like, 12 minutes after then it all couldn’t connect anymore. It has been like this for 1 week now. Am I supposed to be getting instant internet right after I unlock it? I’m with Rogers Wireless by the way.
If not, then how?

There is a common misconception that unlocking a phone somehow gives you free services, this is not the case at all. Unlocking the phone simply allows SIM cards from other carriers to work in your phone, so for example if you have a Rogers iPhone and you get it unlocked, it could then accept a Fido SIM card. As far as getting access to Internet, you’ll need to subscribe to a data plan and ensure that you have no data blocks on your line. The only way to do this, is call Rogers Customer Service and request them to make the appropriate changes to your account.
