Should I Buy The Iphone 3g Now Or Wait For The Next Version?

Its my birthday in 3 weeks, and I really want an Iphone :P
Some people are saying there will be a complete new Phone, and others say a new version wont be for a while, and other say there will be a software update or something which you can just download to your iphone 3g or something.
Can someone explain to me what will happen, and what I should do? I dont want to buy the phone and regret it later on if another complete new version comes out 2 months later.

    i would get it now if you really want it because the next one isn’t coming out for another year or two.
    i have one and it’s like my life. i take it everywhere i go and i cant leave home without it. Plus the new iphone 3.0 software is coming out in june and its going to be better than ever with landscape texting, copy and paste, and many other new features.
    And don’t worry a new iphone isn’t coming out for a while. Don’t listen to the rumors.

    I would go ahead and get it, yeah maybe the new one will come out soon but i have heard that the iPhone 3g is rreeaallyy cool. My friend has one and i was playing with it and it is the bombbb [:
