		<description>I think you have to break this article down by country by country, as students abroad will be settling in different countries.

Germany for example has deregulated the telecoms industry and sofar is the only country in Europe from which you can use a service called &#039;call-by&#039;call&#039; from landlines. A visitor to Germany would only pay 1p to call the US from a landline. These numbers are available from any local paper. 

The UK has just introduced call-by-call for mobile phones, which is a hell of a lot more practical when travelling. The service is called Kangatel and with an ordinary Orange PaynGo card a user can call the US, Australia, Germany, India, Poland etc for 3p.

Having an Orange sim card has the advantage of getting 2 for 1 deals at Pizza Express and at cinemas.

Oh yes and the user is charged to the Orange sim, no topup fees, no connection fees, so a damn good deal whilst you are in the UK. I know that kangatel can be used outside the UK, but I have no clue about roaming charges in different countries.
