iPhone Crashed Softbank Registration
Today I wanted to get my iPhone 3G. Finally, after so many times running to the shops and looking at all these models I was ready for the iPhone a month ago. I did not get it at that time, because my current contract was running until the end of August and it was suggested to me to wait until that time. Two weeks ago I went to Softbank again and made a reservation for an iPhone. At that time Softbank allowed to take reservations and I was glad they did, never knowing for sure if you get the phone or not.
Today was the big day. Yes it is Sunday and in Japan it is like every other weekday only more people at the mall and shops. This afternoon I went to the mall, lots of people there looking and shopping. I got the the Softbank counter and had to wait. Glad they took my reservation paper and I had to sign the paper for the iPhone 3G. Everything went fine up to that point. Next I was asked to leave my mobile number and prepare to wait for 90 minutes to start the process.
I was told they are very busy, can’t say anything except smile and take it. Next was to fetch some food as I got a call from a Softbank sales lady who told me that there is no chance to get it done today anymore. Softbanks system broke down and they have been told not to take any orders anymore. I wasn’t happy about it and I was very much upset. I can not believe that Softbank was and is unable to manage a run on there server from only there own sales force. Amazing the iPhone crashed Softbank registration system I think once again. Why Softbank is not able to think ahead and prepare for such a case in advance? It is weekend, people have time and got there paycheck, Softbank lowered the price for the iPhone just last week again. Softbank Mobile wants sales and now they can not handle them…. There luck NTT docomo is not selling the iPhone 3g too, otherwise I would have got my iPhone today!
Later in an other Softbank shop I was told the situation got worse, even the fax communication broke down and did not except any applications. The fax is usually the backup in case the computer does not get the job done. The sales rep at Softbank was smiling as he told about the situation, but you could clearly see it was a forced smile. He was unhappy and I would say he was pi**** because he had to turn down a lot of customers, customers who wanted to have the iPhone 3G or other mobile phones. It is the last day of the month and I am sure it would have made a nice bonus for him or at least he could meet his target. There is no way all the customers will come back to him tomorrow, because not everyone got time or it is not on the usual way. Hope Softbank will make up for it. Sure I hope to get something “extra” tomorrow, but not sure if I will be lucky in that case. I let you know.
