Are Iphone 3g Sold In Belgium Unlocked Allowing Use Of Other Sims In Different Countries?

I plan on buying a iPhone 3G, but over the next 18 months will be living in three different countries, so will not be getting it on a contract.
Luckily I am currently in Brussels and while the Apple site says Belgian iPhones are carrier-locked, I am told they are not as it would be illegal to do so over here.
Does anyone have and first-hand experience to know whether non-belgian SIM can be used?  Read more...
