Trying To Decide Between Unlocked Iphone And Iphone 3g?

I am not eligible for an upgrade till sometime in 2009 and i am considering buying an iphone. Which is a better idea even though i am not eligible for an upgrade, buying the unlocked iphone or buying the iphone 3G? I have heard that since i am not eligible for an upgrade the 3G would have a really high price to buy it, is that true? I’m Trying To Decide Between The Samsung Impression And The Iphone 3g?

Okay so I have been trying to decide between my two phone choices the Samsung Impression a877 and the Iphone 3G. I’ve looked and researched on both phones but am still at a loss.
What do you think?
And can you also answer my concerns/questions?
1)Can the Impression use Apps like the Iphone? If not then what is the App Store used for on the Impression?
2)Is the battery life on the Impression better then that of the Iphone?
