im thinking about purchasing an iphone. now because of the new iphone (iphone OS) they have reduced the price to $99. what i need to know is if i purchase an old one (the $99 one; iphone 3G) will i get all the new functions that the iphone OS will have with the new software update?

I’m planning to buy my first ever iPhone this week maybe. My friend who is currently in the States will buy one for me. I’m living in the Philippines. I’m thinking of just buying the 8gb iPhone 3G (with the OS update) that only costs $99.
What would I be missing if i just get the 8gb with the update?
Will I be able to use it in the Philippines?
Is it better if I just get the 3G S?
